Finding Balance: How I Manage Work, Training, Nutrition—and Life
As a personal training manager and private coach, my schedule is packed. I spend my days supporting others in their fitness journeys, answering messages, programming workouts, and managing teams. It’s a career I love—but it can also be easy to let my own training, nutrition, and personal time slide down the list of priorities.
But here’s the truth I’ve learned: If you’re not making time for you, the rest of it doesn’t matter as much.
Balance Doesn’t Happen on Accident
We all have obligations. Work demands attention. Clients need support. Life throws curveballs. But if you’re always operating in “reactive mode” where you’re putting out fires and saying yes to everything except your own needs, your energy, focus, and well-being take a hit.
Balance is possible, but you have to build it with intention. That means asking yourself:
What do I need this week to feel good both physically and mentally?
Where can I realistically fit that into my schedule?
Am I prioritizing other people’s needs over my own, every time?
When you’re honest with yourself, you start to see that training and nutrition don’t need to be pushed aside. They can actually enhance your ability to handle a demanding lifestyle if you make space for them.
My Approach to Prioritization
I don’t chase perfection. I chase consistency. And that only works when I plan my week around a few non-negotiables:
My own training sessions: These are appointments in my calendar, just like client sessions. They don’t get bumped unless absolutely necessary.
Meal structure: I keep things simple, with go-to meals I know work for me. While I do enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes when i have the time, meal prep has been a huge unlock for me during busy work weeks (check out www.beastvillagemealprep.com use code BO15).
Personal time: Whether it's an hour to decompress, a walk with a podcast, or just doing nothing… this is critical. I need it to show up fully for others.
None of this happens by accident. It’s the result of looking at my calendar, understanding my energy, and saying “no” when I need to.
You Don’t Have to Choose Between Work and Wellness
One of the biggest mindset shifts I share with clients is that it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
Work doesn’t have to come at the cost of your health. Training doesn’t have to mean two-hour sessions every day. Nutrition doesn’t have to be perfect to be effective. You can build a lifestyle where everything fits.
Balance isn’t about fitting into a specific routine, it’s about creating a system that fits into your life, not the other way around.
Final Thought: Make Time for YOU
At the core of it all, that’s the most important advice I can give. Whether you’re a coach, a parent, a busy professional, or someone just trying to get back on track:
Make time for you. Not as a reward, not as a luxury; as a necessity.
You’ll not just feel better, but you’ll be able to give more to the people and work that matter most to you. And that’s what real balance looks like.
